Happy ... the word for today. Happy because February meetings are often low attendance meetings, because of weather, cold, snow. Surprise! We had a full house at the Tuesday club meeting. Three new members were initiated. Pat H sponsored Gloria, Beth sponsored Sarah, Diane and Cathy sponsored Susan. Raetha from Starting Point: Services for Victims of Domestic & Sexual Violence talked to us about the services that starting point provides and details on the new renovations to Grace House (shelter home). Members all brought in one item of cleaning supplies to donate as Grace house will soon be available to offer housing to clients. We also talked of how the vision of a comfort closet was being made a reality and the plan that Altrusa will be able to provide the items needed in the closet, on a regular basis. We presented $100 donation to the speaker - which is our usual thank you gift. If anyone wishes to reach out and donate to Starting Point, check them out on Facebook or their website. They have a donation button and also a wish list. One statistic that opened our eyes is that 1 in 5 woman have been the victims of sexual or physical abuse. Many do not seek help.. but help is available. The goal is to make people safe and sometimes there are techniques to make this happen and to remain in place.
